    Doughtry “Doc” Long, Jr., was born a twin in Atlanta, Georgia on March 14, 1942 to Jessie Wooden and Doughtry Long. He was raised in Trenton, New Jersey and was a life-long scholar, attending West Virginia State College and earning a Master's in Urban Studies from the College of New Jersey. Doc went on to serve as an educator for more than 30 years, leaving an indelible legacy as a teacher of literature and creative writing at his alma mater, Trenton Central High School. He spent his lifetime exploring his love of worldwide travel, fishing, jazz, and poetry. Doc’s commitment to education and service extended to often overlooked populations, leading him to help organize the African American Studies Program at Trenton State Prison. He also served as a community development specialist for the Peace Corps in West Africa, where he recruited civic-minded volunteers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
